Director of Choirs
Mr. Daryle Freeman is a native of Lake Charles, Louisiana. He comes from a family of musicians so his path to being a music teacher was set early in his life. Mr. Freeman is a graduate of Jackson State University where he earned his Bachelor's and Master's in music education. While at JSU, Mr. Freeman studied under Dr. Elestine Perkins Holy, Dr. Phyllis Lewis-Hale, and Mr. W.C. Castilla. Mr. Freeman is in his nineteenth year of teaching. His choirs have received consistent sweepstakes and division-one ratings at UIL. His choirs have also traveled across the USA including Honolulu, Hi, Los Angeles, CA, New York City, NY, and Orlando, FL. Mr. Freeman's choirs have also performed with the Houston Symphony Orchestra, at the University of Houston's Choir Invitational, and Houston Chamber Choir's Hear The Future Concert. Mr. Freeman has been a clinician for many choirs in the Houston area and he is very excited about being here at Klein Oak High School. His philosophy of education is that every student can and should receive a quality education, especially in music.
Heather Leal
Assistant Director of Choirs
Heather Leal is excited to be returning to Klein Oak Choir Program for year six! Prior to Klein Oak, Mrs. Leal was at Dueitt Middle School in Spring ISD for 4 years. Mrs. Leal attended Sam Houston State University where she received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. While at SHSU, she was a member of The SHSU Chorale, the premiere ensemble, under the direction of Dr. James Franklin and had the privilege of studying Choral Education under Denise Eaton. Her professional affiliations include TMEA and TCDA. When Mrs. Leal isn’t teaching she enjoys traveling and attending concerts of all sorts with her husband, Steve. Mrs. Leal and her husband are proud parents of 4 fur babies; Smokey(dog), Elliott(cat), Rowdy(cat) & Leila(dog)
